Héctor Juan Pérez Martnez, better known by his stage name Héctor Lavoe, was a Puerto Rican salsa singer who lived from September 30, 1946, to June 29, 1993.

In the history of salsa music, he is regarded as arguably the greatest and most influential singer. Throughout the 70s and 80s, he enjoyed a tremendous artistic career in the fields of Latin music and salsa thanks to his charisma, sense of style, and vocal abilities.

The Singer, a biopic of Lavoe, was in production until the director stated that it had gone over budget in 2008.
