Idaho to receive shelter pets impacted by Hurricane Ian

July 2024 · 1 minute read

Good Flights, a program of Greater Good Charities, in partnership with the Humane Society of the United States, is flying more than 150 shelter pets in Florida to new homes in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

The airlift will make room for the ongoing influx of surrendered and homeless pets arriving at animal shelters because of the storm.

Hurricane Ian has also resulted in staffing shortages and damaged buildings making it impossible for animal shelters in affected areas to operate at full capacity.

- Sending shelters: The Humane Society of Broward County (Fort Lauderdale), Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League (West Palm), Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (Palm City), and Animal Welfare League of Charlotte County (Port Charlotte).

- Receiving shelters: Lake Lowell Animal Rescue (Nampa, ID), Embrace a Discarded Animal Society (Blaine, WA), The NOAH Center (Stanwood, WA), Seattle Humane (Bellevue, WA), Motley Zoo (Redmond, WA), Seattle Area Feline Rescue (Shoreline, WA) and Animal Protection Society-Friday Harbor (Friday Harbor, WA)

While at the receiving shelters, all of the pets will be evaluated and receive any follow-up medical care needed before being put up for adoption.
