Now that the holiday season is over, we’re looking forward to seeing what delights await PS5 owners in 2024. Last year was full of amazing titles like Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3, and while we largely know what this year’s slate of games will bring, Sony appears to have just slapped 2024 release windows on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Forever Skies, and Concord.
Under the new moniker of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami is taking one of the best games of all time, Metal Gear Solid 3, back to square one. Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, this overhaul of the sublime stealth classic is now seemingly slated to debut in 2024. While Konami hasn’t yet given a definitive Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date or even a vague window, the inclusion of the game in Sony’s recent ‘the biggest games coming to PS5 in 2024’ blog post appears to nail it down for this year. Sadly, it won’t feature input from MGS franchise mastermind Hideo Kojima, so we’re still cautious about just how good it will be.
Sony also confirms that the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake will also join the roster of new PS5 games arriving in the coming months. Similar to the MGS3 remake, developer Blooper Team will have equal amounts of pressure to respectfully adapt a critically acclaimed title. The original Silent Hill 2 is often labelled as one of the best horror games in existence, so the stakes are certainly high.
You can also set your sights on Forever Skies, a survival game that already cultivated a loyal following in the PC community since its Steam release last June. Backed by a considerable amount of ‘Very Positive’ user reviews, Forever Skies is all about resource management and outliving the danger of a version of Earth far beyond saving. If you love No Man’s Sky but wish it was far gritter, this could be one of the best PS5 games you’ll play this year.
As well as the reveal of 2024 windows for these three games, Sony also doubles down on its PS5 exclusive shooter Concord releasing this year. Announced back in April last year, Concord could emerge as a sleeper hit amid the ranks of the best FPS games on the slate for 2024. Focusing on PVP multiplayer skirmishes, Concord’s development team consists of former Bungie and Activision talent. Notably, ex-Activision executive Tony Hsu and ex-Bungie creative director Ryan Ellis are bringing their expertise over from Destiny to lay the foundations for an enthralling, fresh sci-fi universe.
Will it have what it takes to compete with Bungie’s forthcoming extraction shooter Marathon? We can’t wait to find out. So far, we’ve heard suspiciously little about Concord other than its genre, a brief conceptual teaser trailer, and that it was slated for this year. With such little info on the game, and Sony’s recent troubles with its slate of live service projects, it is reassuring to see the project is still on track for this year.
