When I first saw the commercial (and online) regarding the accident I thought they were all being dramatic when it was said that he may never bake again. When it was said a pin went through his hand, I just never thought that the pin was the size that it actually was.

But then I watched the 2 hr. special, and omg, the size of that pin was huge! How awful. He is lucky that the hand specialists office called him back in right away or he could have lost his hand.

ITA. I think a better description would be a "spike" . A spike with a jagged edge - as they had to do more cutting just to pull it out.

As I watched the episode, which was a common theme for the series, Buddy still feels the immense pressure to carry on the bakeries and the other companies as many rely on him for financial support. Yes - the drive to carry on his helping him heal , mentally, and go through the pains of physical therapy, but the body does need its rest to heal too.

Hopefully one good that will come of this is that it is past time for the family to discuss the future, planning for the "what if" and "what's next".  I agree with wife-Lisa, let the kids choose their own path (she mentioned college and work for someone else) and not just transition them into the bakery, perhaps foregoing finishing high school. That is one thing I really like about Joey (and now Robert) - he carved a financial career path (firefighter with a pension & veteran military benefits) for himself/family outside of the bakery. But Mario, Frankie and Danny what will happen to them financially if the bakery isn't as profitable as the past.

Buddy also has to remember - he "acceded to the throne " as cake boss at a young age, which means he will be in charge to some degree for a long time - kinda like Queen Elizabeth. It is possible that Buddy's sons will have the opportunity to do something else, for a while,  before its time for them, to become more involved and to take over. And I guess his daughter either doesn't want to take over or its only for the his son's to consider.

RE: his show "Buddy  vs. Duff" - one idea would be to transition to be like "The Voice" . The accomplished stars sit behind the mike and let the newbies audition to become the next star.
